The Coat of arms of Dewsbury was the official symbol of the local government of Dewsbury in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The borough was abolished in 1974 under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972 whereby control was ceded to Kirklees Metropolitan Council and West Yorkshire Metropolitan County Council. ==Description== The arms were granted by the College of Arms on 24 February 1893. The arms feature the motto ''Deus Noster Refugium Et Virtus'', taken from Psalm XLVI, which is Latin for 'God is our refuge and strength'.
